Yael Reshef is new on the fashion scene – she recently graduated Shenkar College of Engineering and Design and at only 28 years old, has already participated in a few fashion shows and she has a couple of collections under her belt. Yael is a perfect example of the young up-and-coming design talent that we love to discover!

Yael’s aesthetic is driven by the combination of old and new; soft and light fabrics mixed with rough unconventional materials. But her number one priority is to create innovative designs that flatter the body – now that is what we like to hear. Her creative process begins with research of various periods in history/culture, she then immerses herself in reconstructing the patterns of clothing of that time, and then turns them into something contemporary and wonderful.

About the ‘After ParTEA’ Collection

The inspiration for this collection came from the British Afternoon Tea, a custom which appeared in the 19th century. As with everything else “proper” 19th century British, this custom came with its own particular set of acceptable fashions – tea time gowns were heavy and constricting with a lot of lace overlays (as was most women’s fashion of that time). Yael played with this idea but introduced light and jean fabrics to the mix, and replaced the lace with modern flower prints, the effect this technique produced was evocative of the lace.

The principal motif in the collection is porcelain dishes with blue glaze, which would have been used at afternoon tea time. The dishes were the inspiration for the prints, and the indigo color inspired the creation of the denim collection. Yael used a laser cutting technique – branding motifs from the porcelain dishes, giving the jeans a feminine look and combining with light Fabrics like silk chiffon and organza. The bags and jewelries were made of a combination of leather and sliced porcelain dishes – how fitting.

We don’t know about you, but this collection has us ready for a good old afternoon Tea Party, and the After ParTea too (more so the later!).
