Maya Shalev started her career in leather and handbag accessories design while studying at HKU Netherlands. She set out to renovate the conservative old leather bag and bring them back to a fashionable yet functional place with a new spirit. Small clutch bags with side buckles quickly became a hit among women young and old alike, and constituted the turning point of the label.

Maya’s unique style is reflected in the use of unconventional skins, and colors, and surprisingly sophisticated aura. All these together form a unique manuscript that accompany her personal brand.

The studio has a workshop in the front of a shop. A designer works alongside interns from Israeli design schools that are looking for a place to learn traditional techniques in leather and how to set up a small business.

The Ugly Duckling fashion label was born the Summer of 2008 by designer, Gal Angel. The label headlines with it’s swimwear line in summer, but also offers lingerie, lounge wear, and dresses made to put a smile on your face any time of year! The label also makes it’s fair share of appearances in small pop-up shops.

The Ugly Duckling style is individual and clean with a slightly nostalgic retro-chic flair- updated to mesh with today’s fashion trends. All items hold up to the ambiance of the label and exude fun, lightness, and humor through the whole creative process.
